Isuzu MU-X Sun Shades (2016–2025)
The Isuzu MU-X has become one of Australia's favourite family 4WDs for a simple reason: it's the D-Max's seven-seat wagon sibling, built on the same tough ladder frame with the same 3.5-tonne towing credentials. That makes it the pick for families who tow a van or camper to the coast and spend whole days on the road — which also means whole days of sun streaming onto the second and third rows. Our sun shades are cut to the MU-X's exact window shapes and mount magnetically to the steel door frames, so the kids stay cooler, glare comes down, and the shades stay put on corrugated tracks where suction cups give up.
Why Isuzu MU-X owners choose custom shades
Cooler rows two and three
The MU-X's big glasshouse is great for visibility but lets serious heat onto the back seats. Mesh shades cut the load so children and pets travel comfortably, even at van-park pace in summer.
Less glare for the driver
Side glare off low morning and afternoon sun is tiring on long tow legs up the highway. Shaded rear glass calms reflections through the cabin and the rear-view mirror.
UV protection for a working interior
MU-Xs do big kilometres and often live outside or hitched to a van. Blocking UV helps keep the seat fabric, child seats and trim from fading and cracking over the years you'll own it.
Privacy on the road
A wagon loaded for a fortnight away is full of gear worth hiding. Mesh shades make it much harder to see into the cabin at roadhouses, rest areas and the van park.
Features
Cut to MU-X glass
Each shade is patterned to your MU-X generation's window shapes — second row, rear quarters and fronts — for a flush, factory-style fit.
Magnetic mounting
Sewn-in magnets grip the painted steel door frame. Nothing sticks to the glass, there are no suction cups to fall off in the heat, and windows still wind down.
Breathable mesh
Blocks most of the sun's heat and UV while letting air move — handy when you're parked at the boat ramp with the windows cracked.
On and off in seconds
Lift each shade out from a corner for night driving or the car wash, and store the set flat in the cargo area.
Fitment for your Isuzu MU-X
We make MU-X shades for the 2016–2020 first-generation wagon, the 2021 update and the current 2022–2025 generation. Pick the year range that matches your build date below, or send us your VIN and we'll confirm the right set before it's made.
Covers: Front driver and passenger windows, Second-row passenger windows, Third-row / rear quarter windows.
Installation
- Match each cut shade to its window — they're shaped per position.
- Bring the magnetic edge up to the steel door frame and let it grip.
- Press the border flush all the way around so there are no light gaps.
- Peel from a corner to remove, and stack the set flat when not in use.
Isuzu MU-X sun shade FAQs
- Do these fit the current-shape MU-X?
- Yes — choose the 2022–2025 set for the current generation. The 2021 set covers the first year of that shape, and the 2016–2020 set fits the previous generation.
- Can I drive with the shades fitted?
- Use them on the rear windows while driving — second row and rear quarters. Front-window shades are for when you're parked, so the driver's vision is never restricted.
- Will they stay on at highway speed towing?
- Yes. The magnets grip the steel frame rather than the glass, so they hold at highway speed and on corrugated gravel — conditions where suction-cup shades routinely let go.
- My MU-X has factory privacy glass — are shades still worth it?
- Privacy tint cuts some light but not much heat. Mesh shades add real heat and UV reduction on top of the factory tint, which the back rows notice on a 35-degree day.
- Do they suit the D-Max as well?
- The D-Max ute uses different rear glass, so it has its own patterns — see our Isuzu D-Max page if there's one of each in the driveway.
