Who we are
CarShade (carshade.au) sells custom-fit car window shades and publishes fitment guides for Australian vehicles. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to meet the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
- Order details — when you buy, we collect your name, email address, phone number, billing address and delivery address, and the items you ordered. We need these to take the order, ship it, and contact you about it.
- Payment information — card details are entered directly with our payment processor and are never stored on this website. We receive only a confirmation that payment succeeded, plus the last digits and card type for reconciliation and refunds.
- Account details — if you create an account, we store your email address, a hashed password, and your saved addresses and order history. An account is optional; you can check out as a guest.
- Messages you send us — anything you tell us by WhatsApp or email about fitment, an order or a return, kept so we can answer you and handle any warranty claim.
- Server logs — our host records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, page requested) for security and diagnostics. These are not used to build profiles and are not sold.
- Cookies — the shop needs cookies to remember your cart and keep you signed in; these cannot be turned off without breaking checkout. We also use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages get read, in aggregate. We run no advertising cookies and build no remarketing audiences. You can block analytics with any standard browser setting or content blocker without affecting how the site works.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We disclose only what is needed to fulfil your order:
- Payment processors, to charge your card and process refunds.
- Delivery carriers, to get the parcel to your address.
- Our web host and email provider, who store the site and send your order confirmations.
- Anyone we are legally required to disclose to, such as a lawful request from a regulator or court.
Some of these providers store data outside Australia. We use providers that commit to protecting personal information to a standard comparable to the Australian Privacy Principles.
How long we keep it
Order and payment records are kept for five years, the period Australian tax law requires. Account details are kept until you ask us to close the account. Messages are kept while they may still be relevant to a warranty or return.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — except where we are required to keep order records for tax purposes. If you have an account you can see and edit most of it yourself under My account. To make a request, or to complain about how we have handled your information, contact us. If you are not satisfied with our response you can escalate to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, passwords are stored hashed, and card numbers never reach our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
